*Note: The story of young John Taylor, a convert to the church, was in NY City preparing for a mission to England in 1837. He had been telling people he had all the money he needs; he is all set. Parley P. Pratt was also in NY City on a different kind of mission, a publication mission, to get the word out here in NY. He hears stories that John Taylor has money and I need all the help I can get, with printing cost, paper, ink, and, to pay a typesetter, so he goes to John Taylor and asks him, “Do you have any money?” Elder Taylor says, “Yes, I have plenty of money.” Elder Pratt says, “Ah, good, can I have $2 or $3 hundred dollars to pursue the work I am called to do?” Brother Taylor gets a big smile on his face and says, “I will give you all the money I have. He reaches in his pocket and hands him one cent because that is all the money he had.” Parley Pratt, who had a good sense of humor, says “What? Why are you telling people you have plenty of money?” John Taylor said, because it was true, I did have plenty of money. I don’t owe money to anybody. My debts are paid and I am staying with people here and I have an extra penny. Wow, I am loaded, and you can have it now.” Elder Pratt said, “No, you need money to go to England.” Elder Taylor responded, “I am sure the Lord will provide.” Other people heard this and said, “Oh, he doesn’t have any money and they tried to give him money. In fact, they took up a collection to help him, but Elder Taylor refused and said if you have money to spare, give to Parley Pratt. He needs it; I will be OK.” Elder Taylor just wandered around the city and people he did not know would come up to him, unsolicited, and give him money. When the time came for him to get on the ship and cross the Atlantic, not only did he have the money for his ticket, but he also had money to pay for another Elder’s ticket who could not afford to go either.” I liked this story because the Lord really does Provide if we trust in Him and Elder Taylor trusted Him. Matthew 6:28-30
Debbie and I were up early this morning; we had prayer; Debbie went to pick Shirley up and then helping to care for Pam but Shirley told her she did not feel like going today. Debbie picked Pam up a coconut smoothie on her way over. Pam and Rick's landlord has approved the altering of the rental home to make it handicapped accessible. The money Debbie gave me to pay the Palace Resort membership she purchased while we were in Cancun, finally came through and the money was available this morning. I started paying the sixty-fived thousand charged on the Citi Bank, Capital One Visas, and American Express credit cards. Debbie and I worked on 2022 tax returns, had dinner, watched TV and read some before having prayer and going to bed.
