Dinner with Elain at P.F. Ching in Miramar Beach
Note: In my family, my brother Lawrence was the first to die, 13, Jan 1977, at age 23; Next was my father, Olin McAlpin, 10 Jan 1989 at age 78; Then my mother, Inez, 17 Dec 1995, age 82; and today my sister, Ora, at age 77.
I slept on the flight from Salt Lake to Atlanta and thanked Heavenly Father. When I woke, I had the idea of renting a car when I arrived I arrive at VPS, Destin-Fort Walton. At the Atlanta Airport internet was available and I went online and rented a full-size car from Budget. I had some time and studied scriptures in the Book of Romans, chapters 9 and 10 by the Apostle Paul, Come Follow Me, Unshaken by Jared Halverson. I boarded my flight to VPS at about 7:30 AM and departed Atlanta at about 8:00 AM EST. I arrived in Florida before 8:00 AM CST. I picked up my rental car at Budget Car Rental and drove to Sacred Heart Hospital in Mirmar Beach. Dan, Susan, and Amy were in Ora's room in the ICC unit. Dan took me to breakfast in the cafeteria downstairs. Elain came and we spent the day here. The hospice nurses monitored her from their nurses' station and came in from time to time to check on her and the family. At 3:00 PM I felt impressed to have Susan and Amy take a picture of their mother, their Aunt Elain, and me. About 10 minutes later the nurses rushed in and checked her breathing and heart. They pronounced her dead at 3:12 PM. At this time Ally was coming down the hall with Palmer (born 17th July 2018 in Irvine CA), and Lele Ruth (born, April 13,2022, Houston Texas), Ora and Dan's great-granddaughters. I went out in the hall and stayed with Palmer. She is 5 years old and knew why she could not go in where Ora was. She did not understand why she could not go in but her mother took Lele Ruth in. She ask me; I told her Lele Ruth is not old enough to know what is going on and your mother wants to protect you. David, the young minister, at the church where Ora and Dan went, to church came and spent time with the family. Steve and Jenet Hughes came with their son, Bradley, and Heather. Jenet, Elain, and Ora were best friends growing up in Tallapoosa. Later when everyone was leaving I took Elain and we went to P.F. Chang's, a Chinese restaurant next to the hospital in Miramar Beach. Susan, Brian, and Amy brought Dan home at about the same time as Elain and I arrived. Jenet and Steve invited Elain to go to lunch with them, Bradley and his wife. They were not taking no for an answer. But Ally came with Palmer and Lele Ruth and wanted Elain to play chicken leg with them. They put a stop to Elain leaving for lunch. Steve and Bradley had been staying here while Dan was at the hospital with Ora. Dan had stayed at the hospital and only came home to shower, shave, and get some clean clothes. At about 2 PM Dan was wanting to come back to the house to get his vitamins and supplements. He had no more with him at the hospital; he takes them daily. He had mentioned several times he needed to go pick them up and bring them up here at the hospital. His daughters and family had talked him into staying but at 2 PM, he had his car here at the hospital and was determined to go. It was Amy who put her food down and told him he was staying in case her mother would pass away while he was gone. They had been here day and night for several days with Ora going down slowly. The doctor and nurses told them they had no idea how long she would live. I can see the Lord's hand has been with us in just these last few days, from me canceling my flight to come out Wednesday; to talking to Ora yesterday while she was coherent because today she was not communicating; Elain being stopped from going with Jenet and Steve to lunch; me being here with Elain when Ora passed away; taking a picture of the 3 of us 10 minutes before Ora died; then delaying Ally from getting her babies down to Ora's room. Dan gave Elain his kingsize bed up stairs to sleep in and wanted to give me the guest bedroom downstairs. He was going to sleep on the bunk bed where he slept while Ora was living. I insisted he sleep in the guest room and I took the bunkbed. I called and talked to Debbie. We had prayer together; I had my personal prayer, studied scriptures and wrote in my journal.
