2:30 PM visit Aunt Joann Koester who was Jalna Searel. Debbie's mother's 1/2 sister and aunt at Assisted Living Memory Center about 6 miles from Patrick and Anndalyn's
3:45 PM Visit with Patrick, Anndalyn, Lyndan, and the children.
5 PM Call the children; Only talked to Beth, Tucker is getting Great Grandpa Horsley's 2005 Hindi from Patricia his grandmother. She talked to me about her student loan that the government was planning to forgive but that has all changed and interest rates are high. I left messages on the other children's phones that I had called and loved them.
We had dinner, prayer with Mirko, Ljubica, and Bojana, before Debbie and I had prayer and went to bed.
Nora Husley from Pleasant Hill in Tallapoosa called and gave me her mobile phone number. She had her house phone turned off. She told me Frank Powell had been taken to the hospital with pneumonia and other complications.
Note: The concept of a resurrection was not believed by many Jews at the time of Christ. The Sadsacues did not believe in a resurrection. There are not many scriptures in the Old Testament to substantiate the doctrine of the resurrection. (Ezekiel 37:1-10) The apostles had seen Jesus Christ after his resurrection, talked with Him, and felt the nail prints in his hands, and feet, and the spear print in His side. They had even ate with Him. One reason Jesus stayed around the earth for 40 days after His resurrection and showed himself to many, over 500 at once (1 Corinthians 15: 5-8) may have been to demonstrate to His followers that He truly was alive. After all, they knew the Roman authorities had put Jesus to death, and that His body had been taken down from the cross and sealed in a tomb.
"In so far as the ancient non-Jewish World had a Bible; its Old Testament was Homer. And in so far as Homer had anything to say about the resurrection, he was quite blunt; it does not happen." N.T. Wright (Resurrection, 35) (Homer is credited with two epic poems that are foundational works of ancient Greek literature. Homer is considered one of the most revered and influential authors in history)
The Apostle Paul taught in Greece, Athens, Rome, and many of the surrounding areas. The preaching of a resurrected Christ was a strange doctrine. It took faith to accept and a spiritual witness by the Holy Ghost for conviction. Christianity was born into a world where its central claim was known to be false. Many believed that the dead were non-existent. Outside of Judisasm, nobody believed in a resurrection. N.T. Wright (Resurrection, 35) Aeschylus, the great playwright and dramatist of Athens wrote "Once a man is dead, and the dust has soaked up his blood, there is no resurrection." Eumenides, 647-648
The resurrection of Christ is proof we will also be resurrected and proof there is forgiveness of sins.
Today our temples dot the earth as evidence of our belief in a resurrection.
In the early days of America, a person who did not believe in the resurrection could not testify in court. The court believed there would be no deterrent for a man giving false testimony because he had no fear of standing before God and being judged himself.
Note: Florence Chadwick was a pioneer for women in long-distance swimming. Born in San Diego, California on November 9, 1918. She won her first race at the age of ten. She was the youngest person to swim across the mouth of San Diego Bay. Starting at age eleven she competed in rough water swims, winning an annual 2.5-mile race in the ocean off La Jolla 10 times in 18 years. Chadwick was the first woman to swim the English Channel both ways, and she did it in record time. In 1952 she attempted to swim from the California mainland to Catalina Island. After 15 hours, a thick fog began to set in clouding Chadwick’s vision and confidence. Her mother happened to be in one of the boats at the time as Chadwick relayed to her team she didn’t think she could complete the swim. She swam for another hour before deciding to call it quits. As she sat in the teetering boat she discovered if she’d just continued on for another mile she would have reached Catalina Island. After the swim, she said, “I’m not excusing myself, but if I could have seen the land, I might have made it.” It wasn’t that she was too tired or that she wasn’t a good enough swimmer that caused Florence Chadwick to fail. It was that she could not see her goal. Two months after Chadwick’s failed attempt she tried the swim once more. Once again, a thick fog set in. But this time she had a mental image of the shoreline in her mind as she pushed herself along. This time she succeeded. In our lives, if we are able to see our goal (the promise of a resurrection) we will be able to endure the challenges of life as the thick fog and mist of darkness set in.
The assurance of resurrection gives us the strength and perspective to endure the mortal challenges faced by each of us and by those we love, such things as the physical, mental, or emotional deficiencies we bring with us at birth or acquire during mortal life. Debbie was up early and cooked breakfast; we had prayer together. I showered and shaved before eating oatmeal, and toast with avocado. We listened to the Spoken Word and Tabernacle Choir before our Utah Gateway Stake Conference. The theme of the conference was becoming a Christlike Peacemaker. Ljubica and Bojana packed their luggage; I weighted their bags they will be checking on Delta and K.L. Airlines.
