6:00 p.m. - Agustos Hotel in Cusco
Debbie and I had prayer, ate breakfast and checked out of our hotel. We left our bags in the lobby of the Augusto to be picked up and taken to our hotel in Cusco. We caught our tour bus to the Sacred Valley. We rode back toward Machu Picchu to the ancient ruins of Ollantaytambo and the Temple of the Sun. In the old village below we spent a little time before climbing up the steps of the ruins that are being restored to the temple. Debbie was able to climb to the top. We had a buffet lunch at Boleto Turisitco. We toured the old village near the church of Chinchero. I took pictures and a video of the local women who learned the art of making wool clothing, shearing, spinning, dying, weaving, etc. from their mothers and grandmothers and are teaching their children and children the art. We bought an Alpaca table runner and a hat for Debbie. We went up the street to the Catholic Church that was built on the ruins of an Inca Temple and it may have been built on top of a pre-Inca civilization worship center. Before leaving Chinchero I bought me and Debbie an ear of boiled corn. The grains were much larger than any corn I had ever seen. We got back to Cusco to the Augusto Hotel at about 6:00 p.m. We prepared to get up at 3:30 a.m. to leave the hotel at 4:15 a.m. to catch our ride to Palccoyo (Rainbow Mountain).
